What we have built in, and where we currently fall short. If the site stops you renting a work, we will do it with you by phone and you will not be treated differently for it.

01What we are aiming for

We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA across this site. That is a target we are working towards, not a certification we hold.

Art is visual, and a site selling art leans hard on images. That makes the parts that are not images — the descriptions, the controls, the checkout — more important, not less.

02What is in place today

The following have been built in deliberately.

  • Every artwork image carries alternative text naming the work and the artist.
  • The whole site can be operated by keyboard, including the filters, the carousels and checkout.
  • Body text sits at or above 4.5:1 contrast against its background; large display type at or above 3:1.
  • Filter controls are real buttons with pressed state, not styled div elements.
  • The checkout acknowledgements are real checkboxes with associated labels, and the order button is genuinely disabled until they are ticked.
  • Page structure uses headings in order, and landmarks for header, navigation, main content and footer.

03Where we fall short

Being honest about the gaps is more useful than claiming there are none.

  • The carousels scroll horizontally. They are keyboard-operable, but the arrow controls are not yet announced as a paired control group to screen readers.
  • Artwork alternative text names the work and artist but does not yet describe the image. We would rather write those descriptions with the artists than generate them.
  • Some artwork images have decorative text within them that is not available as page text.
  • The site has not yet been tested end to end with JAWS or Dragon.

04Buying without the website

If any part of this site prevents you from renting a work, we will complete the whole thing with you by phone or email and you will not be treated differently for it.

05Telling us about a problem

If you hit a barrier, we want to know — it is the fastest way for this list to get shorter. Write to hello@gethung.art with the page and what happened.

We aim to respond within five working days and to tell you either when it is fixed or why it will take longer.

Questions about any of this: hello@gethung.art or +1 212 555 0148.
